Client Overview

About the Project

The client is a CS2-focused case-opening platform with a strong existing user base and active gaming community presence. The brand’s reputation was being undermined by an outdated negative Reddit thread ranking prominently on Google for an important branded query.

The goal was to improve brand perception in AI search results and push the negative thread out of Google’s top positions through authentic community-driven discussions and positive trust signals.

Campaign Objectives

What We Set Out to Achieve

Push the negative thread out of Google

Replace an outdated negative Reddit thread ranking for the "[Brand] legit" query with newer and balanced community discussions and positive trust signals.

Earn positive AI responses for "[Brand] legit" queries

Improve the brand's reputation footprint so AI search engines present the platform as trustworthy and legitimate when users search whether it is legit.

Diversify Reddit search results for "[Brand] legit"

Populate Reddit search results with additional threads sharing neutral or positive user experiences, creating a more balanced overall perception of the brand.
Campaign Structure

Scope & Investment

A major challenge of the campaign was the client operating in the gambling niche, where Reddit moderation is much stricter and branded content is frequently removed. Since the client had no owned Reddit communities, we initially tested around 15 posts across different relevant subreddits to identify communities where discussions could survive moderation. After finding the right placements, we published 4 optimized Reddit threads targeting the “[Brand] legit” query and amplified them through internal discussions and external backlinks to improve Google rankings and increase AI citations.

The Reddit Threads

Each thread was designed to blend naturally into both gaming-focused communities and review-based subreddits where users share real experiences with online platforms. The discussions focused on trust, withdrawals, user experience, and whether the platform is legit — directly matching the search intent behind the “[Brand] legit” query.

r/Reviews

"Anyone here tried [Brand]? Legit platform or avoid?"

Posts and comments were carefully structured to pass Reddit moderation, avoid triggering suspicion from moderators, and blend into existing community discussions — while intentionally including the target branded keyword in multiple natural variations to improve Google relevance and AI-generated search responses.

AI visibility

AI citation strategy

A core objective was improving the brand’s visibility inside AI-generated search responses. Threads and comment structures were optimized so that when users searched “[Brand] legit”, AI systems would more likely cite these Reddit discussions and surface neutral or positive sentiment.

AI responses began highlighting the large number of successful withdrawals and neutral-to-positive user experiences — despite existing negative reviews on Trustpilot — and positive Reddit discussions started appearing in “[Brand] legit” AI-generated answers.

3 AI systems began citing the Reddit threads directly in their generated answers for the target query.

Reddit search results

As more users now use Reddit as a search engine for real opinions, improving the brand’s visibility inside Reddit search results was a key campaign priority. Since Reddit discussions are often trusted more than AI summaries or review platforms, diluting the negative results for “[Brand] legit” with neutral and positive discussions was essential to shifting overall perception.

Outcomes

Results That Speak for Themselves

Negative thread displaced from top Google positions

The outdated thread that had been damaging brand perception for "[Brand] legit" queries was pushed out of Google's top results and replaced by newer, community-driven discussions with balanced sentiment.

3 AI systems now cite positive threads for branded queries

Despite negative Trustpilot reviews, AI-generated answers for "[Brand] legit" now surface Reddit discussions emphasizing successful withdrawals and neutral-to-positive user experiences.

Reddit search results now reflect a balanced brand narrative

Multiple threads now populate Reddit's own search results for the branded query, diluting the single negative post that previously dominated and giving prospective users a more representative picture.

Trust signals established despite a high-moderation niche

Operating in the gambling space — one of Reddit's most aggressively moderated categories — the campaign successfully identified viable subreddits and maintained thread longevity without removal.
Key Learnings

What Made This Work

Moderation testing is non-negotiable in regulated niches

Testing ~15 subreddits before committing budget identified the placements that could survive Reddit's moderation. Skipping this phase would have wasted the majority of campaign budget.

Reddit feeds AI overviews — including for reputation queries

Three independent AI systems began citing the campaign threads. Branded "legit" queries now surface neutral and positive Reddit discussions before any negative review platform result.

Volume and account diversity create credibility

Using 150 unique accounts and sustaining 130+ comments in a single thread generated signals that both Reddit's algorithm and Google's crawlers interpret as community engagement.

Backlinks accelerate ranking displacement

Three targeted backlinks to key threads gave Google stronger authority signals, accelerating the displacement of the legacy negative thread from its top ranking position.

Conclusion

With a $3,650 budget, a targeted moderation-aware Reddit strategy, and a layered account and backlink approach, the campaign successfully repositioned a CS2 platform's brand narrative across Google and AI-generated search. The outdated negative thread was displaced, three AI systems now surface positive community discussions for "[Brand] legit" queries, and Reddit search results reflect a balanced, trust-building picture of the platform. In 2026, reputation management starts with winning on Reddit.
